Chidambaram Lord Nataraja Temple Thiruvathirai Festival:
Chidambaram otherwise known asw “Thillai” which is in Tamil Nadu, is one of the Pacha Bootha Sthalam called also Bhoolaka Kailasaa, where Sri Nataraja and Sri Sivakamasundari were worshiped by Sri Manikkavasagar, Sri Ramalainga Adigal, Patanjai, Thirumoolar and others.
The Mahabhisekam will take place on 08.01.2012 from very early in the morning. After coming around the four mada streets in the temple chariot(07.01.2012) (Thear), on the next day (08.01.2012) early morning before sun rise, in the constellation of Tiruvadura nakshatra being in ascendance, it is verily a gift to witness the grand Mahabhiseka of Lord Sri Nataraja and Sri Siva kamasundari Ambal at the Raja Subha also known as the 1000 pillars Hall. Every ingredient used in th abhisekam has a specific benefit attached to it. On the day of Tiruvadirai it is customary to prepare a pudding made from jaggary (Kalli) and offer it to the Lord. On the same day, in the temple pond, Sri Astarajar is offered the oblations and it is also a practice for devotees to take bath there in order to purity themselves. The Lord and his consort their way to the sanctum sanctorum (Gnanakasa Cit Sabha Pravesa) from the Raja Sabha during the day and this is called Arudra Darshan.

This is also performed in Tiruvarur Temple, Konerirajapuram Temple(Near Kumbakonam) and all other Siva Temples as a important festival.
