ONCE IN 12 YEARS - THE GREAT FESTIVAL OF INDIA

One of the greatest festivals in India, which attracts large crowd of pilgrims from all parts of the country, will be performed at Kumbakonam, in the holy Mahamaham Tank. This holy bathing festival of Mahamaham occurs once in 12 years at Kumbakonam The famous Mahamaham Tank of Kumbakonam is in the heat of the town. This tank covers an area of 20 acres and is in a shape of a pot. The tank is surrounded by 16 small Mandapams and one “Nava Kannika Temple” in the Eastern Side. Govinda Theekshitar, the Chieftain, of Achutha Nayaka of Thanjavur, constructed sixteenMandapams and stone steps around this tank Next Mahamaham is 2016 Feb-March

 

Thiruvarur Temple Car Festival

Thiruvarur Thyagarajar Car Festival is world Famous and it is unique in the Structure. The Temple and the Tank is also very big in size.

Kumbakonam Temple Car Festival

Kumbakonam Sri Sarangapani Temple Car Festival is falls on Chitirai Tamil Month. The Car is very big
and it is 500 Tone weight with 110 feet height.

Thiruvidaimaruthur Temple Car Festival

Thiruvidaimaruthur is also called Mathyarjunam and Many Kings and Saints were lived in this area and got the Mukthi. So, this Car Festival is realted to the Historical Events.

These are the Three Big Car Festival in the Thanjavur District. They have their Unique Structure and beautiful woodern sculptures and big Wheels and so on.

Chidambaram Lord Nataraja Temple Thiruvathirai Festival:

Chidambaram otherwise known asw “Thillai” which is in  Tamil Nadu, is one of the Pacha Bootha Sthalam called also Bhoolaka Kailasaa, where Sri Nataraja and Sri Sivakamasundari were worshiped by Sri Manikkavasagar, Sri Ramalainga Adigal, Patanjai, Thirumoolar and others.

The Mahabhisekam will take place on 08.01.2012 from very early in the morning. After coming around the four mada streets in the temple chariot(07.01.2012) (Thear), on the next day (08.01.2012) early morning before sun rise, in the constellation of Tiruvadura nakshatra being in ascendance, it is verily a gift to witness the grand Mahabhiseka of Lord Sri Nataraja and Sri Siva kamasundari Ambal at the Raja Subha also known as the 1000 pillars Hall. Every ingredient used in th abhisekam has a specific benefit attached to it. On the day of Tiruvadirai it is customary to prepare a pudding made from jaggary (Kalli) and offer it to the Lord. On the same day, in the temple pond, Sri Astarajar is offered the oblations and it is also a practice for devotees to take bath there in order to purity themselves. The Lord and his consort their way to the sanctum sanctorum (Gnanakasa Cit Sabha Pravesa) from the Raja Sabha during the day and this is called Arudra Darshan.

This is also performed in Tiruvarur Temple, Konerirajapuram Temple(Near Kumbakonam) and all other Siva Temples as a important festival.
